Invest in our Planet - Earth Month 2022
April 25 2022 – Cecily Morgan
Celebrated annually each April, Earth Month is an important event in every eco-warrior’s diary and this year it takes on the theme of “Invest in our Planet”. To help you do exactly that, we’ve rounded up our favourite ethical brands that will help you stay planet-friendly while shopping for your favourite things - think sweets, skincare, and sunglasses…
Summer is on its way and if you’re seeking a new pair of sunglasses, make sure you check out California-based Humps Optics. Each time someone buys a pair of their shades, they donate a pair of reading glasses to someone in need. Crafting their designs from ultra-strong, unbreakable materials, the brand is also encouraging everyone to ditch those flimsy fast-fashion sunnies for good.
Looking to indulge your taste buds in some creamy, ethical treats? You’re in luck. Happi Free From is a chocolate company that uses oat milk to whip up some Wonka-worthy creations including a white chocolate and raspberry bar, hot chocolate spoons, and jumbo choc-covered raisins (drool). The best part? It’s all vegan and comes in sustainable packaging.
As their name suggests, this brand supports a cause very close to our hearts - the protection of endangered animals. How? By donating money to the Sea Turtle Conservancy and the Red Panda Network with a percentage of sales from their eyeshadow palettes. All products are also - unsurprisingly - vegan and cruelty-free.
Eliza Eliza is a Welsh indie business that creates gorgeous bags and accessories out of planet-friendly hemp and donates a percentage of their profits to a variety of charities, allowing you to ‘carry your cause’. Our personal favourite is the brand’s Turtle collection, which supports WWF’s efforts to protect endangered turtles. We reckon one of these would look great with our turtle socks…
If you’re seeking a sustainable sugar rush, Tasty Mates is here to help with their plant-based, sustainably-packaged chewy sweets. Each flavour represents members of every friendship group such as The Berry Funny One and The Salty One (we’ll let you decide for yourself which one you are) and - as if their eco credentials weren’t enough - they donate to mental health charity Mind and homelessness charity Crisis.
Now a registered B Corp (the highest scoring B-Corp in the UK for that matter), YOU is an ethical underwear company that donates two pairs of undies to Smalls for All each time someone purchases a pair of their pants. Made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, their underwear is also planet-friendly - and super comfy.
Being sustainable doesn’t have to mean forgoing the luxe cosmetics, and Base Plus is proof. A personalised skincare company that formulates moisturisers and serums based on each individual customer’s unique skin type, the brand ensures all products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. What’s more, their skincare comes beautifully packaged in pumps that are made from sugarcane waste and fully-recyclable HDPE.
Struggling to find a chic watch that isn’t crafted from leather? Enter Votch with its vegan-friendly creations. By using sustainable faux-leather to create timeless watches, the brand allows everyone to sport a smart timepiece. What’s more, they plant a mangrove in Madagascar (which helps stabilise soil and improve water quality) every time someone makes a purchase.
We hope you may prioritise shopping from these amazing brands this Earth Month - and every month for that matter. And remember, if you’re looking for some planet-friendly socks or pyjamas, you know where to find us…
